The event, which is a part of the #UJdlaSzpitala initiative, had its first stage in the form of a fund raise for the needs of the University Hospital in Kraków. In total, the benefactors offered almost 2 million złotys. The second stage of the event is an Internet auction which was launched on 22 April on the Artinfo.pl website. Students, academics and artists related to the Academy handed over 208 works in a gesture of solidarity with people who suffer from COVID-19 and the medical personnel taking care of them. Bids for the works are accepted until 6 May. The total income from sale, similarly to the fund-raising, will be sent to the Kraków hospital which has been functioning as the homogeneous infectious diseases hospital which means that patients with COVID-19 are transferred here.
DHL Parcel is providing free logistic services for the auction.
"The fact that we can join the noble initiative of two prestigious universities, i.e. the Jagiellonian University and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, is a reason to be proud of for us. We know how important it is to support hospitals and medical facilities during the pandemics, therefore we get willingly engaged in initiatives that offer assistance to the health care workers during this difficult time. As of March, we have been delivering masks to the hospitals in Warsaw, and now, as the logistic operator of the auction for the University Hospital in Kraków, we will make sure that the auctioned paintings reach their new owners safely. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the income from the auction to be the highest," says Magdalena Bugajło, PR & Communications Director in DHL Parcel.
The organisers concede that the logistic issues were the greatest challenge, and the positive response of DHL Parcel to the invitation to take part in the auction met with great enthusiasm.
"The fact that DHL Parcel will cover the costs of the delivery and is going to handle the entire logistic process is an immense support for us. We know that we have a reliable partner, whom we can fully trust and that delivery of the paintings to the auction participants will not be a problem," stresses Adrian Ochalik, Press Spokesman of the Jagiellonian University.
Participation in the charity auction is another gesture of DHL Parcel in the fight with coronavirus. The Company, as part of the "Warsaw Sews Masks for Health Care Workers" initiative, has delivered already 27,600 masks to the hospitals, medical facilities, children's homes, nursing homes and the Caritas facilities in Warsaw, as well as a ton of healthy snacks and honey to the hospitals around Poland.
