Frequently asked questions about sending parcels:

The volumetric weight of a parcel is its volume. A light, big parcel can take more cargo space than a heavy, small shipment. We calculate the volumetric weight and we compare it to the actual weight of a parcel. We calculate transport costs using the greater weight.

In DHL we want to use our cargo space as effectively as possible, so we are able to offer you better prices for our services. This is why we introduced the volumetric weight conversion factor.

The formula to determine volumetric weight is as follows: length x width x height (in cm) divided by 4,000. The result is in kg. We compare the result to the actual weight of the parcel and we use the greater value to set the price. We also encourage our customers to pack their goods more effectively. This will make it possible to reduce the parcel size and thus also the transport costs.

We recommend that you pack all parcels up to 31.5 kg in a regularly shaped cardboard box, filled with bubble wrap, foam polystyrene or other such filler.

Parcels shipped on a pallet must be thoroughly secured and protected against displacement during transport.

Taking into consideration the volume and size of our trucks, maximum acceptable dimensions are as follows:

  • For parcels up to 31.5 kg the sum of sides (length + width + height) cannot exceed 300 cm and the longest side cannot be longer than 200 cm.
  • For parcels over 31.5 kg the sum of sides (length + width + height) cannot exceed 600 cm and the longest side cannot be longer than 400 cm.
  • For parcels with one of the sides longer than 200 cm, but shorter than 400 cm, the weight cannot exceed 50 kg.

Note: Parcels over 50 kg have to be transported on a pallet.

Parcels up to 31.5 kg will be delivered on the next business day as standard.

Parcels over 31.5 kg are delivered in 2 business days.

If the situation as specified above occurs, and the parcel has not been delivered due to the fault of DHL, report this fact to the DHL Parcel Customer Service Department.

In response to your report our courier will come to you to compile a shipping damage report.

The damage must be reported within 7 calendar days from the delivery date using our DHL24 contact form.

Information on the parcel insurance price can be found in an actual price list available on the website with documents to download.

The compensation is for the actual amount of damage to the parcel insured, suffered by the aggrieved party.

Major provisions of the insurance agreement between DHL Parcel Polska Sp. z o.o. and the insurer are available on request.  It is an agreement in the interests of the third party - the owner of the parcel or a person incurring the transport risk who is entitled to receive the compensation. It is the ALL RISK insurance.

Parcels containing items excluded from transport in the Terms of Use for Domestic Transport and Postal Services of Parcel Polska Sp. z o.o. are not covered by the insurance.

DHL does not insure envelope shipments containing documents.

The insurance cover lasts for the time the parcel is under DHL care, no matter how many transport stages it goes through.

The COD service ensures repayment to the parcel payer's account within 5 business days.
